The Store

In 1996, Karen opened her own boutique in NoLIta (North of Little Italy) in New York City. She named it PUSH, which was emblematic of her approach to business and design. Karen quickly established her store as a destination for people looking for an alternative to more conventional jewelry retailers. With free rein over her creativity, Karch’s individual aesthetic evolved into one that is unmistakably her own.

After Ethan Hawke approached Karch to design an engagement ring for Uma Thurman in 1998, she quickly gained a following for her distinctive yet timeless bridal rings. Working on the premises has also given Karch an opportunity to test new ideas, interact and listen to customers – including David Bowie, Marisa Tomei and Meg Ryan – who discover her shop.

Karch offers couture service, giving clients the opportunity to work one-on-one with her to create an original design for engagements, weddings, anniversaries and red carpet events — exclusively for them. For clients who have an old strand of pearls or a gemstone tucked away in a jewelry box, the designer will refashion them into a custom Karen Karch jewel.

Karch is celebrating the 12th anniversary of her store this year, which makes her the longest standing jewelry business in NoLIta. She has become a well-respected designer in the world of fine jewelry, so much so that the store’s original name, PUSH, has lost its resonance and will now be called by her name, Karen Karch. Also this year, the designer is evolving her branding, expanding her bridal collection and launching her newly designed e-commerce website.
