Creating meaning in metal & gemstones - symbolic talismans - has always been my greatest love.
This Thunderbird is a most personal piece, inspired by my wish to keep my mother close, always. Using diamonds removed from jewelry from my family, The initial idea was to create a seagull – as my mother loved the book “Jonathan Livingston Seagull”.
The diamonds I was designing with were mostly tapered baguettes and their geometry made the idea challenging. When my husband looked at my attempted configurations, he immediately saw a Thunderbird – and knowing that this mythical bird was woven into my youth in El Paso, it all made sense.
Our Karch Wolfe signature details were added for another layer of meaning.
